Patriots Day Road Race

Each Spring, on the day observed in New England as Patriot's Day, the Club sponsors a road race exclusively for high school runners. The 2009 race was the 60th year for the event. Franklin Emery initiated the race in 1948 to provide high school students their own event to coincide with the Portland Boys Club 5-miler and the Boston Marathon, each celebrating the legendary ride of Paul Revere and the battle of Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts.

The race attracts many top boys and girls teams and individuals, and top finishers from Gorham and Westbrook, but the the object is mostly to provide a fun event just prior to the spring track season.
