The WRVC house project sponsored by the Westbrook-Gorham Rotary Club is the longest continuing building project of its kind in the United States. Since its inception in 1963, students have built one house a year. What sets this dynamic program ahead af all other Building Trades programs within Maine is that the house is fully funded by Westbrook-Gorham Rotary; the house is built on-site as opposed to a modular house, students from WRVC's Building Trades Program build the house, WRVC's Electrical students wire it and students from PATH (Portland Arts and Technology High School) install its plumbing, making it a multi-school and community project.  Additionally, funds from the house sales enable the Rotary Club to provide scholarships and toolships for WRVC students at the end of the year and contribute to students qualifying for national competitions. In addition, the sale provides funding for the next house.

The house currently under construction is the 43rd to be built. In a departure from houses to date, this is a two-year project (2006-2007). This permits larger structures, thus providing more advanced training. For example, more complex scaffolding is required and dormers are added.

Near the end of each school year, it has been a tradition for the Club to host a luncheon at each new house for students in the program. This provides recognition for the students and also is an opportunity for the Culinary Arts students to display their skills. This year's luncheon was on Tuesday, May 23, 2006. Please visit our Photo Album "House Projects" to view the house currently under construction and the students.
